Outlook - OE DBX > 2GB

Asked By JerryAlbrech on 13-Aug-07 03:40 PM
How do I fix a DBX file once it is exceeded 2GB? It will not let me do anything
to the file, although I can view E-mail.

You may need a tool to extract the messages, but try this first.

File | Identity | Add New Identity.

In the new identity: File | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook
Express 6 and Import /only/ the folder in question from the old identity. In
this identity it will have a new dbx file. Create a number of folders and
see if you can move messages out of the folder in this identity. Keep them
under 300MB.

If you are successful, you can either go back to the old identity an import
the new smaller folders back, or, if you are just archiving the messages,
leave them where they are and use that identity for archiving purposes.

I have moved the SENT.DBX file and Let OE recreate the SENT folder. I then
created another folder and imported the original SENT into it. Is there a
way to import a DBX file and set boundries or filters so I can slice it up?

Where is the 2GIG dbx file now? If you dragged it out of OE, you couldn't
have used the import function to get it back.

By not importing it to a new identity, you still have the messages in the
same corrupt dbx file. Create a new identity as I suggested and then
manually import it. You can't split up the messages in a dbx file. The
folder has to exist in OE.

Assume the dbx file is on the Desktop, do the following to drag it into the
/new/ identity.

Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the
Desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and
locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it.
Click on the Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop in the right hand
pane to the OE store folder in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to
overwrite......."? Click Yes.
