Outlook - Where are my contacts?

Asked By marielaferrier on 22-Mar-08 01:39 AM
Hi,

I just changed my computer. I plugged my old hard disk on the new
computer (Vista) to get my data and I'm looking for the contacts I had
in Outlook Express in my old computer (XP). I found a .wab file, but
the last modification date is in 2006, so it's not the right one.
There's no other .wab file on the drive. In what file the contacts
from Outlook Express are stored, then?

Thank you,
Marie

Can you open the address book on the old HD? Look in Help | About for the
path. Also:

No, I can't open the old address book. And is it possible to open the
registry of the old system to look where the file is stored? Anyway,
there's no other .wab file on this disk...

Thank's again.

Did you look at the link?

Do an Advanced search of the old HD and include Hidden Files and Folders.
Search for:

*.wab

*.wa~

*.~

See if these three searches turn up anything else.

Thank you very much for your help, Bruce. But yes, I already did that
and there is nothing else than the 2006 file I already mentionned...
Any other ideas?

I have no other ideas. You might get some other insight in the Windows Mail
newsgroup, but keep checking back here as well to see if someone else here
has any further advice.

Did you also have Office Outlook installed on the old PC? If so, OE
might have been configured to share the Outlook contacts in which case,
you contacts are in the Outlook PST file and OE was not using any WAB
file.
