Outlook - opening " doc " files

hello ,
When I try to open a " doc " file
in O.E. 6 , I get the message that :
associated with it etc. " .
Can someone tell me how I might
correct this ?

Those are Word files. Is MS Word installed? If it is:

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works, (MS Word), and then check the
box: Always use this program to open this kind of file. This should enable
you to open these attachments in the future.

If Word is not installed:

What Bruce said, and/or you may want to associate it with wordpad
(securitywise - since it is from e-mail).

I always try to get the viewers for such things.
