This message when compacting

1. If we are not supposed to interrupt the OE compacting, what happens when
we get the message: "The Folders file is currently in use by OE or another
application?"
I always go offline, and then leave the computer until it is through
compacting, so I am following the rules.

2. If we go to Microsoft's site to use it is Malware checker, are we
supposed to turn off our own virus/spyware scanner first?

A1. Close OE, open OE & compact all folders manually (ALT+F+F+F).A2.

I am pretty sure the reference is to the "Malicious Software Removal Tool":
if so, no, just run it.
(I do not even download it anymore, cause it is way behind my AVG...)

I resolved my problem with compacting. Just left it a couple of days and
tried it again. Found out in the lower status bar that my problem was, OE
was busy indexing and I have never seen that reporting in the status bar
before today. Thanks

Windows Search. Set Desktop Search Options:
http://www.microsoft.com/australia/windows/desktopsearch/search/options.mspx

In the Windows Control Panel | Indexing Options | Modify. Clear the check
box for Outlook Express.
