Outlook - Is it easy to upgrade to Outlook 2007 from Outlook 2000?

I have got Windows XP Home, version 5.1, circa 2006 with Serevice Pack 3.
Recently renewed my Kaspersky internet virus subscription and it froze out my
OUtlook. Turns out 2010 Kaspersky will not support 2000 Outlook. So I am
willing to buy and upgrade my Outlook to the current version, but do not want
to deal with a lot of what would be considered to be problems for casual
computer users such as myself.

First, there are free antivirus programs that are every bit as good as
Kaspersky and with which you would not have this problem.

Second, there is no reason to scan incoming messages with an antivirus
program, as long as you use its on-access scanner, so uninstall
Kaspersky and reinstall it without the mail scanning feature. Bot it
and Outlook should work fine after that. Were I in your situation,
considering you have just spent money for the AV program, this is what I'd
choose. When it comes time to renew again, dump the costly AV.

That said, upgrading Outlook is often easy, but just as often not,
particularly when transitioning from a very old to a much newer version.
As long as you intend to continue using Windows XP, I'd recommend
staying with Outlook 2000 unless you need features of a later version.
If you ever need a new PC it will be time enough to spring for a newer
Outlook.

To add to Brian's comments, I would not upgrade just outlook (unless i only
had outlook). If you have office now, buy the office suite if you decide to
upgrade. Office 2010 is due out in about 6 months - I'd wait for it. At
least wait for the technology guarantee before buying and you will be a free
(possibly a shipping/handling fee) copy of office 2010.
