Outlook - Outlook stopped receiving mail...
Asked By Mikey on 25-Jun-12 09:07 PM
I am running XP Pro, Outlook 2003 & have SBC Yahoo Business DSL as my
ISP.
I am using outlook with my sbcglobal.net email & on Thursday, I stopped
receiving emails to Outlook.
They still come to iPhone & everything is current when going to the
webmail page.
I can test the account settings in Outlook & everything works just
fine - test email goes everywhere its supposed to, except for Outlook!
I have created a new profile, new email account, pst file, using
different combinations of each, all with the same result.
Error messages I am getting are;
'Receiving' reported an error (0x800CCC90) : Your incoming (POP3)
email server has reported an internal error. If you continue to
receive this message, contact your server administrator or ISP. The
server responded ; ERR inactivity time out.
I have also received the message that the connection to the server was
interrupted, with the error code (0x800CCC0F).
Server time out is set to 10 minutes.
I have also gone to webmail & taken every message from the time this
started to present time & moved them to a separate folder, thinking an
email message may have been causing it.
I have also disable NAV, thinking it may be part of the problem, but
no luck.
ATT's tech support is pretty useless, as 'they do not support' Outlook!
One last thing, another user in office is having no problems, the only
difference is that she is using Outlook Express.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

What settings are you using for your mail server?
With a sbcglobal.net address, it looks like your server settings might
be as follows:
Incoming (POP3):
Account type: POP3
Server name: pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
Server port: 995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Username format: emailid@sbcglobal.net
(be sure you are using the email ID and the full domain, not just the
email ID)
Outgoing (SMTP):
Account type: SMTP
Server name: smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
Server port: 465, secure connection (SSL) checked
Additional settings: Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
Also, take a look at this site that tells how to enable Error Logging
in Outlook 2003. This can help you troubleshoot connection issues.

I have had both of those, as well as new setting they said they were
going to be changing to, inbound.att.net (995) & outbound.att.net
(465), using SSL.
Let me try the logging...

Not really, sorry. Obviously, during that run there was nothing to
upload/send, but the download/receive portion of the session looks a
bit like it was transferring some data. Maybe a complete log from the
start of a sync to the end of that sync will reveal some hints.
That's certainly a red flag, especially the fact that you had email
scanning enabled.

Another interesting item, I can set up the same account, same
settings, etc, using Outlook Express & it works fine.
I am thinking remove & reinstall Outlook?
Char Jackson replied to Mikey on 26-Jun-12 11:39 AM
If you are at that point, just resetting Outlook back to default
settings might help, and would be much faster than remove and
reinstall.

Noted. Still a giant red flag, though, and something I would change
ASAP. There is no need to scan email, especially by the much maligned
Norton.

Feel any better about MS Security Essentials?

Yes, I do, but still not for scanning email.
If it is opinions you want, there is usually no shortage of them around

SON OF A FUCKING BITCH!!!!
Removed norton, removed & reinstalled office, ran winsockfix, just to
make sure something was not jacked up with TCP setting & I am right
back to where I started -
Task 'inbound.att.net - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The

I was experiencing CRC errors in Outlook when I was trying to send or at th=
e time of receiving emails.=20
CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) errors are indicating errors with a specific =
file and in lot of cases with your hard disk. It does not indicate a problem=
with Outlook itself but a problem with the place on the hard disk where yo=
ur pst-file is located. When this occurs after you have just copied the pst=
-file (on disk, from network, from CD, by download) you should first verify=
that the original source still works and try to copy it again. If this has=
happened "all of a sudden" like in that it still worked yesterday, the iss=
ue can be either software based or hardware based.=20
If it is software based you can fix it by opening Start-> Run;
chkdsk c: /f (replace c: with the drive letter on which your pst-file is lo=
cated)
When it tells you that it currently cannot check the disk and asks you if w=
ant to perform a diskcheck at next reboot choose Yes (Y) and reboot your co=
mputer.
When you are done, run scanpst.exe against your pst-file to check if this f=
ixed it.
