Protocol: SMTP, Port 25, Secure(SSL): No, Sockett error: 10061, error #
0X800CCC0E

New computer running Windows XP SP2, with Outlook 2003 and Outlook Express.
Setup email accounts as before, verified POP and SMTP settings against
another computer on which OE is working properly. Regardless of settings, teh
above error is returned when attempting to send/receive through either
Outlook or OE.

What does teh socket error 10061 indicate? Suggestions please?

Thanks

See if this helps:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191687/en-us
You receive a "Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e" error message
when you try to send or receive e-mail in Outlook or in Outlook Express

Thanks for your rsponse and lead. I also read that the "test Settings" button
is not always a reliable indicator of teh status of the account setup. I will
be testing further this weekend.

Thanks again for your assistance
